Happy Pride!

A Black woman is holding onto a pride flag with text that reads "Listen to 2SLGBTQ+ BIPOC voices.

Happy #pride Calgary! At Kids Up Front, we’re excited to celebrate pride by sharing our tips on how to be a better ally to the #2SLGBTQ+ community. The first step to being an engaged ally is to listen to members of the queer & trans community, especially BIPOC voices. Did you know that Marsha P. Johnson, a Black trans woman, was one of the main activists in the 1969 Stonewall Riots? The Stonewall Riots was a pivotal point in queer and trans activism as the community protested against police surveillance and imprisonment. Black, Indigenous and queer People of Colour have always been at the front of the movement for queer and trans liberation. Let’s become better allies by uplifting the voices of #BIPOC 2SLGBTQ+ activists.
